Scorching the World

Last Friday morning, shortly after midnight my husband was diagnosed with colon cancer. We were 'lucky' that: 1. It happened shortly after a new year started so insurance will cover all of it after we meet our co-pay and all future hospital expenses this whole year will also be covered. 2. It happened on the right side of the colon because - a. if it had been on the left side, it would have caused an obstruction and could have been life threatening by the time it was diagnosed, and b. it was located right over a blood vessel so as soon as it started to grow it caused a lot of bleeding which made us go see what was happening. 3. It happened in an area of the colon that, after removing the 15" section, Tom will be able to function normally without need for an outside bag. 4. It had only begun to alter the look of the colon cells, which means it had just begun to become cancer. 5. It had not grown through all the tissue of the colon wall, so it did not spread into the body. 6...

Tom and I always talk at the beginning of each year and set goals for the year. They aren't really resolutions, they are things we want to accomplish, not things we resolve to do. There is a difference in my mind. Anyway, before we even had that conversation, I started thinking of things I really want to get done this year. I was very excited and anxious to get started. Last Sunday all night I was thinking about them and wrote some of them down, and couldn't wait for Sunday to end so I could get started with them. Monday morning about 3am I woke up with a really good headache. (Is there such a thing as a good headache?) Usually after I drag myself out of bed and get moving the headache goes away, but this time it didn't. I worked about 6 hours on some stuff for Tom's work, and it was very painful, slow stuff on the computer which didn't help the pain in the head.
