Fun Projects

TMP doesn't like the television to be the focus in her livingroom, so For many, many years she has wanted a special picture or pretty fabric to cover it. When she got a big screen TV recently, it became even more of a want than before. So she found a picture she wanted to use, and one day while I was at a fabric store, I found some fabric to make it with. So this past Monday, we went to the Bay Area and TM and I got it put together. I think it turned out pretty darn good for a first attempt.

There's No Place Like Home

Tom's company paid for a hotel while he was traveling this week. I got to go with him and play while he worked. Since Tom doesn't work for the government, the company chose a "modest" hotel for us to stay in. In its defense, I have to say, it was clean and not shabby. However, in order to remember to appreciate what I have, I paid attention to the things that are just way better at home than at that hotel. 1. My house is prettier. 2. The view from my home is way nicer. The hotel room had a view of the parking lot. 3. My shampoo, soap, lotion, and shower gel are all nicer and pba free. 4. The room had cable, but no DVR, so if I missed a line, I couldn't rewind to hear it again. It also didn't have a menu, so the only way to see what was on was to scroll slowly through every stinkin channel (at the risk of seeing R rated things). 5. I do like entering the place with a key card. It is a little easier than keys for entry, and weighs less, but since I drive my car ...

Working vacation

Tom had to go down south along the coast to do some work and invited me to go with him. The company paid for a motel and I stayed there while Tom did some work. We got to San Luis Obispo ( http://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1GGGE_enUS373US373&aq=f&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=san+luis+obispo ) on Wednesday around 1pm. We checked in and I played in the room while he did some work. When he finished, we decided to go out and scope out the town. It is a great little town. It has a lot of history, is beautiful, and there are a lot of fun things to do and see. There is a mission there that Junipero Sierra had the Indians build. It was closed, but the grounds around it are just beautiful, reminding us of Portugal. After wandering around town a couple of hours, we decided to do something we almost NEVER do: we went to a movie! We saw Knight and Day. It was really fun. On the way back to the hotel we stopped to look at the beach. Unlike in northern CA, down there they allow cars t...

More Tom

In the car, on the road, on long freeway stretches most people get bored. I read while Tom drives. But Tom is never bored. He is enough entertainment to himself that he is never bored. Today we were driving along a long stretch of nothingness. He said, "Look at all those sunflowers. They only grow right along the edge of the highway. I wonder why that is." I said, "I think they are nourished by the gas fumes." Then he saw a brown hill far away with nothing on it except about 6 lonely trees. He said, "I wonder why those 6 trees grew there all alone." He also wondered why the weeds are green right to the side of the road when everything else is brown. There were a few other things along the way for Tom to comment and wonder about like a sign on the side of the road that said "Warning: drifting sand." He said, "I wonder why they feel they have to warn us about drifting sand. I wonder what is dangerous about drifting sand?" Then he surmise...

Giggling at midnight

My husband is so funny. Everybody knows that but sometimes I just have to save to memory things he does. Yesterday he went with me to run errands. One of the errands was Trader Joe's where we got our groceries and he found fresh figs in a box. there were maybe 15 figs in the box for one price. I don't like figs, but I had no problem with him buying them cause he LOVES figs. We got lots of good foods and snacked on the way home. He ate about 6 figs just on the way home. Anyway, after playing computer games until very late at night, we finally went to bed and after prayer and reading scriptures we were cuddles up talking about a few leftover things. I made one comment and he said, "let's talk about that next week." Then we said good night, and I love you. I was just about asleep when he whispered, "We should have bought 2 boxes of figs."
