Scorching the World

We did not sleep good last night. I think we both woke up around two or 3 AM feeling like we had had a nap. We were still super tired and didn’t want to open her eyes, but it took a long time to be able to go back to sleep. We finally got up around 7:30 or 8 AM. We had to hurry a bit to get ready because Alex said he would pick us up by 10 AM. I wanted to go to the little grocery store across the street to get some snacks for breakfast and Alex actually got here before Tom got back. They found each other outside of the hotel. He came alone because the others weren’t ready yet, so first we had to go back to his house to pick them up. Only Tixia and    Guga went because Gui was too tired from college initiation activities that he’s been doing for the last two days.   We actually slept in this morning until 8:30 AM! It was much needed sleep to get over jet lag. But we had scheduled to pick up the rental car by 8 AM so Tom scrambled to get a shower and get over there as quickly as he could while I was able to shower and get dressed more leisurely. We were able to have a relaxing morning, other than that, to get caught up on Internet and stuff.  We had an appointment at the Temple for 2 PM. It’s only a little over a mile away, but we opted to take the car this time. We didn’t want to risk getting lost again. We wanted to find a store where we could pick up a couple of things and also find a bank on the way. We did find a bank, but we did not find a store big enough. I don’t know if they have Walmart here or target but I needed to find a store where they sell pens and a few other things.   We knew it was morning when the flight attendant started coming around giving people breakfast. I think it was like 2 o’clock in the morning in California, but it was 7 AM on the airplane. they served us calzones and juice.     Boy it was hard to open my eyes. It was actually painful. But I gradually woke up. Tom had been awake for hours trying to just be quiet and not disturb anybody else When we landed in Lisbon, it was sunny and beautiful weather. I forgot to mention that yesterday when we landed in JFK, it was cold and raining. We were glad we didn’t have to go outside except to ride the bus, from one part of the terminal to another. But when we landed in Lisbon, they parked the airplane really far from the terminal. We had to go down steps to get off the plane and then walk over to buses that took us to the terminal, and it was really quite far. Tom set an alarm on his phone to be sure that we did not oversleep. I knew we would be waking up over and over and checking the time. We didn’t need to leave Ray and Renee‘s house until 7:30 AM and we are usually up by 6:30 AM. The difference is that’s California time not the Utah time on clock in the room. But I woke up at 3 AM and 4 AM but force myself to stay in bed until 5 AM. Utah time.  I got up and showered and dressed, and when I was done, Tom got up and showered and dressed.  We repack a little bit more and then we were ready to go!  Ray and Renee gave us a ride to the airport and let us leave our car at their house. So nice! We got to the brand new Salt Lake City airport with 45 minutes to spare and spent the time chatting (texting) with Alex to arrange when we can see them while in Portugal. The time went pretty fast.  The flight was nice. The flight attendant came by about every 15 -30 minutes to offer snacks and water or juice. The snacks were so tiny! A...
