Scorching the World

10/29    When I’m sewing, I don’t like interruptions; I kinda hate to even take time to eat. I just want to sew and nothing else. So I worked on the quilt all day and got about 2/3 done. I was hoping to finish it by today because tomorrow we’re going to see the kids in their Halloween costumes and I had hoped to give Nina her gift by then.   Oh well! I’m not gonna be done by tomorrow! It was fun spending the day sewing, and I sure didn’t want to quit, but I had two meetings tonight. I’ve been wanting to join a book club ever since they started doing that as part of Relief Society. Now it isn’t part of RS, but women still do it. I haven’t ever been in a ward where they had a book club, or where sisters were interested in one, so I always felt a little left out. Our Napa ward doesn’t have a book club, but those who like to read join the other ward book club. 10/28 A quilt isn’t a quick craft! Today was Sew on and So Forth, so I packed up my sewing machine and all the fabric I had cut and left home about 8:00. I was hoping to pick something up on the way, but couldn’t find what I was looking for. At Sew on and So Forth, I laid out my quilt and got ready to work on it but I really needed some fusible interfacing to help the shapes be more firm for applique, so I ran to the store and then went back to work on it.  I was making good progress when it was suddenly time to go to Lunch with the Ladies. It is always on the same day which is good so I don’t have to make a separate trip to Napa, but bad because it cuts into sewing. But the lunch was good and it is fun to sit and chat with all the sisters. About 11 went. Afterward we went back to the church and cleaned up and left. 10/27  I was so excited to make a quilt from the fabric I bought yesterday. It’s for Nina’s birthday, and I think she will like it. It is squares of different shades of blue with different patterns, and on the solid squares I’m going to applique silhouettes of animals that she loves. So I spent the whole day cutting out the shapes and cutting the blocks of the quilt. I didn’t even get to start sewing them. We left about 4pm after Tom got home from work and went to Danville for Nina’s birthday party. Marc and Alissa went too, but I felt bad going without a present. Nina isn’t very concerned with presents or parties or anything, so she didn’t care. I just wish I had got the inspiration to make the quilt a couple of weeks ago! It was really fun hanging out with Tami and family and Marc and family. I love sitting and just talking with our kids! We left about 8pm

10/26       Tonight was our ‘empty nesters’ Family Home Evening, and Tom promised he could get home from work in time to go together. (Last month he went straight there from work and we met there.) I worked on entering music in the computer for choir all day. He didn’t get here in time for when I wanted to leave, so I drove down because I wanted to go to a fabric store first. When he got there, he went to the store to get the stuff we needed to take to the FHE, then we met up in the parking lot. We had an hour to spare and couldn’t think of anything else we needed to do while in Napa. Two days later I remembered I needed windshield wipers on my car, and an oil change, which we could have done in that hour, but we didn’t think of that on Monday. So we sat and just talked until time to go. The FHE was really fun. We have a great group of people in this ward who are incredibly smart, spiritual, and friendly. It was good food and good company. 10/25 Tom had his early morning meeting today, so we left by 7:15. Last night, since I was late getting back from the quilt show and stuff, I had to leave my car in Napa so Tom could pick me up in Sonoma to get to Draven's concert on time. So we drove down to church in the van and picked up the Miata on the way.  As soon as we got to the church, Tom told me he had received a phone call from a sister who lives in Berryessa near us, who needed a ride. She had a rental car and needed to return it in Napa and needed a ride from the car rental place to the Church, then back home after church. He had to go to his meeting, so I went to pick her up. She was supposed to be ready to be picked up by 8:30 and it was only 8, but I decided to go right then to make sure I could find the place and be already there when she arrived.
