Its backwards day!

So since I lost a few pounds, I've had SEVERAL people ask me if I've been ill. I think that is hilarious! BIG TIME LOL because that seems very backwards to me. It seems like if you are getting thinner, people SHOULD assume that you are becoming healthier. But in our society, weight loss IS usually connected to illnesses like cancer or digestive disorders. Weight gain, on the other hand is usually associated with wealth and happiness. I think we really do need a Jaime Oliver food revolution to create a society that wants to eat for health, not to satisfy cravings and desires. I know, it sounds so boring. Vegetables should be the center of our meals and snacks, with a little protein and a couple of fruits a day. If we eat that way, we automatically lose weight and feel better; we have more energy and our brain becomes clearer; our skin clears up, our digestion becomes better, and many of the most common illnesses fall away. The Word of Wisdom is a little confusing to me. It says,...

Gratitude is hard

I don't now why it is so hard to remember to be grateful for wonderful things. You'd think if something is wonderful, you would just spend all your time appreciating it. Intead, sometimes it is hard enough just to recognize how wonderful something is, much less keep recognizing the wonderfulness of it day after day and year after year. I have said many times that it is like trying to appreciate chocolate cake even if its your favorite thing in the world - if you eat it every day, you stop appreciating it. It still tastes great to you, but you lack the appreciation that we have when it is a rare treat. You know what I mean? There are so many things that I SHOULD be continuously grateful for and so many that I should begin to recognize that abound in my life. And I try, but soon I'm back to complaining about what ISN'T right instead of appreciating all that is. I supposed this is because I am human and it is a very human trait, but I seriously fight it constantly. They SA...

Stuff of the world

I've started cleaning closets again. I have good incentives, immediate and long term. One is that I really don't want to die and leave my whole house full of STUFF for my kids to have to go through while they are so distraught over my untimely death. And what good is STUFF anyway? Most of the STUFF I'm sorting through we having not looked at in over 5 years, so how bad could we possibly need it? It just amazes me that the 2 of us can have enough STUFF to pack 2000 square feet of living space plus 2 garages. MY STUFF, of course is pretty important. But every time I show Tom something stupid of his that we've stored for years, he says, "Wow! I've been looking for that!" Course he never mentioned to me that he was looking for the metal Corvette sign that was tucked way down low in a box in the toy closet. It just seems to me that if it has been untouched in a box for more than 2 years you must not need it very bad. It's just STUFF. It isn't food or fu...
