the Sabbath 8/30

Image
We both slept through the night and woke up about 6am. What a blessing! We got a lot done in the 3 hours before leaving for church. Tom wanted a haircut, but as he was changing a lightbulb in the bathroom, he dropped the bulb and it broke all over the counter and floor. He had just been talking about how CFL bulbs are plastic and don’t break when you drop them! LOL We spent so long cleaning that up that there wasn’t time to get his hair cut. So sad. Sacrament meeting was good. Josh Ensign just got home from his mission in Argentina and he told of good experiences he had. For Sunday School I sure thought they were going to do a 5 th Sunday presentation about the new schedule. I thought that was worldwide to happen today, so I was surprised when we had a normal Sunday School class. I decided I might as well go make copies for choir, so I got 3 new Christmas songs all printed for the choir and later gave a copy of each to my pianist. I had already put our Thanksgiving song in the c...

Lunch with Friends Aug 29

Image
I woke up at 4am because I realized Tom was already up. I tried to call him back to bed, but he couldn’t hear me. He finally came back at 5 and we slept until 6. So silly. I worked on my computer all morning (and practiced). I am transcribing my Education Week notes. It takes a long time to type all the notes, then find and attach the right pictures. I’m only on day 2. But today my computer kept locking up. Yesterday and today I got messages from Xfinity that there was a problem in the area and they were working on fixing it and would let us know when it was fixed. I blame that for all the problems I had on my computer and printer the rest of the day. I had a Relief Society club  lunch with Dining Divas at La Boulangerie at 11am today. 9 sisters confirmed that they could go, so I went early to save a table. It was very busy there, and VERY noisy. Tom planned to go work on Tanya’s rental, but found out last night that a friend of ours had passed away and asked if it wa...

Helping Tanya day 30, Aug 28

We worked on computers and such until Tom left for work at 6am. It is amazing to me that we can get quite a bit done before 6am!    (my 4 ½ day headache went away soon after I got up!!!!! Hooray!) Anyway, I got a whole lot done after he left. I’ve been transcribing my notes from Education Week to post on my blog. I had almost all the notes and pictures from the first day ready to publish but my computer restarted itself during the night and lost it all. It really should have been saved as a draft but didn’t, so I had to start all over again. Gathering the pictures for each of the lectures is he hardest part. But I got the 1 st day re-done and published, then started on the 2 nd day. I figured out how to dictate to my computer, and it went a lot faster after that. I also studied scriptures for a very short time and practiced the piano for a very long time. My internet has been glitchy for a couple of days. I ran speed tests which seemed fine, but it was definitely havi...

Not Helping Tanya 8/26

I took Imitrex before going to bed last night  so I slept great and my head didn’t hurt when I got up! Hooray! I had a whole lot of stuff I needed to do at the computer in the morning. I worked on lots of things before and after Tom left for pickleball.  It bugs me all the time to have the motion sensor ring camera send notifications to my phone every time someone is in the driveway. It was something Tom wanted because the driveway is a blind spot for us. One time I did see a man walking into our driveway, but he turned around and left, I assume because the camera announced that he was being recorded. I have no idea who he was because the view was pretty tiny. Anyway, I wanted the notifications to go to Tom instead of me, since he was the one who wanted it, but I needed to install the ring app on his phone. I did that while we were both in the office, but then I needed to scan the qr code on the camera on his phone. It was really hard. We didn’t manage to figure...

Helping Tanya day 28

I had agreed to meet Tanya at 6am at the rental. I woke up about 4:30 but went right back to sleep, then didn’t wake up until 5:30. I got ready as fast as I could and got to the rental about 6:20. We did a few things before starting on the kitchen floor. We make a really good team when we are working on something like that because every cut needs to be perfect, so it took two brains most of the time to say, No, this way, no, this way. Plus it takes 2 people to insert a board.  We used every single board she bought and it came out perfectly. Then we moved the fridge into its place for the first time since we started 2 months ago. Finally it is out of the living room. Hooray! And the floor looks so good! All we need to do is add baseboards, but she has to buy some first. Tom got there about 10am but mostly worked on his Synergy stuff until after when we had finished the flooring. I had taken stuff to make tuna sandwiches for lunch, so I made that  for all 3 of us...

Helping Tanya day 27

I had planned to go help Tanya at 10am this morning, but I got a headache in the night. I texted her in the morning saying I didn’t feel well but if I felt better later, I would go. Tom had pickleball and needed to leave by 8:30. I got him to rub my head for a little while before leaving, which felt really good. I had a bottle of Sprite instead of breakfast. That always settles my stomach and helps my head. I did feel a bit better by noon, so I went to the rental. This dumb house needs so much work, and everything turns out harder than it should be. We did some planning and discussing things. Then we decided to start installing the flooring in the kitchen. We couldn’t do it when I first got there because the guys installing the a/c were walking through the kitchen all the time. But when they left, we decided to get busy. Tanya was expecting a delivery that she had to be there for, so we thought we might as well be working while she waited. I still didn’t feel very good, e...

Stake Conference 8/23

Image
We both slept so good last night. I woke up about 5 and went back to sleep. We stayed in bed and just kept falling back to sleep until after 6am. It felt so good! I’m finally beginning to feel rested up from Education Week. (Ed Week was sure worth it, though!) I’ve been preparing a choir to sing in Spanish for the morning session of stake conference, so Tom and I needed to be at the stake center at 9 to get the choir binders out and ready. I also had made little Ziplock bags with a tiny Jesus in each, along with a thank you note stapled to it that we needed to put on each seat. But Tom was delayed getting ready and we left late. I hate being late! But we did manage to get everything out and ready before time to start the rehearsal. Also, there was a traffic jam on the freeway that delayed my accompanist. She texted that she might be 10 minutes late, but she arrived right at time to start our warm-up, so that worked out good.  I was surprised at the things people wanted to revie...

Recuperating 8/22

Image
Tom and I slept in until almost 6am. It felt so good to be horizontal, to rest, and be together. He planned to go help clean the chapel at 7:30 this morning, but since there is stake conference this week, they decided not to clean yet. It bugs me that people think it’s ok to have the church building dirty until we're going to use it. That’s how I used to clean my house – only when people come over. But I think the church should be clean all week and when we use it on Sunday or any other day, then clean it again immediately. If I were in charge, we would clean on Monday evenings, taking turns for family home evening. I hope they never put me in charge. ANYWAY, after we got up, I spent a lot of time in my pajamas on the computer, trying to catch up on everything. Tom took a nap about 9;30 and tried to get me to be with him, but I wasn’t sleepy yet. I kept on the computer until about 11am, then he took another nap with me. I was beginning to feel lightheaded and like 'out ...

The Long trip home 8/21

Image
My departure time at the airport wasn't until 2pm, so Anne and I figured we had time to go to a few classes before leaving. I woke up too early but stayed in bed ro keep my eyes closed until I heard Anne get up at about 5. We spent some time packing everything up so we could check out after breakfast.  So after we ate, we loaded the car and headed back to campus for the last time. My first class was Joshua Savage on the Role of  Jesus Christ in the New and Everlasting Covenant. It was so good I wished I had gone to all of his classes this week! If I go net year he will be one of my priority speakers to go see. I left his class with tears in my eyes. So good. Then I went to the Marriott Center to hear  Scott Anderson. He teaches with stories, so it's hard to take notes, but his presentation was so good and so moving. After it ended, people just sat in their chairs pondering. It was quite a while before anyone wanted to start standing up to leave. I saved Anne a seat ...

Day 3 Education Week 8/20

Image
I slept good but woke up around 5am, which is ok Utah time but California time would be 4am. Way too early. Anne woke up about 5:30 so we had time to get some things done before going down to breakfast.  Every day after breakfast we just have a few minutes to get what we want for the day and go to the car, drive to the west stadium, park, catch a shuttle bus to the Marriott center, then head to our classes, either walking or on another bus to take us to a farther class. During the day we go to the a class together now and then when we find something we both are interested in. That’s fun. It’s a good thing for phones so we can communicate! I went to some pretty cool classes today. My 2nd class was led by Dillon Boss.  I assumed it had to be the dad of one of the missionaries we loved in Chile because I couldn’t imagine our missionary who has only been home from his mission about 12 years could possibly be presenting at education week!  I got to the class just a minut...
