The Sabbath and heading home 9/7

Good thing Tom and I always wake up before everyone else so we could get dressed and out of the bathroom before anyone else needed it. As soon as we were out, Christian went in to take a shower and was still in there when we left for church.

We took Trina with us and everyone else came later in two more cars. There was the “on-time” car, the “just a little late” car, and the “I missed the sacrament” car.

Sacrament meeting was mostly good, with a few really good testimonies, but a couple of “doctrine of men, mingled with scriptures” testimonies. Trina and I were watching the Bishop’s face and reactions. He held a blank stare really well.

Sunday School class gave a lesson from D&C 89 – the lesson from 3 weeks ago. I don’t know why so many teachers don’t understand which lesson goes which Sunday when it is listed in lessons with the actual dates they go to, but it was still a pretty good lesson with lots of participation.

We just sort of hung out after Church not doing much of anything. When Tom started getting hungry, he volunteered to make a huge pot of arroz con leche out of the multitude of rice that was there from lots of Panda Express orders. It turned out really good and most everyone loved it.

After that we played Blank Slate and Geneva (Jay) joined us. We had a good time with lots of funny answers. They are fun to play with. After 2 games of it, before Trina could grab some decks of cards, we decided it was time to go home.

Our trip home always seems a lot shorter than the trip to their house. We were so happy to get home at about 8pm. That gave us time to settle in and put stuff away and be ready for the week.

We love visiting Trina and sure wish she didn’t live 4 ½ hours away!

Another day of fun 12/30

Tom developed a lump in his upper arm. He felt it in his shoulder yesterday, then today it was a huge lump in the bicep and made him look really buffed, but was quite painful and he was worried. I tried massaging it some, very lightly, with some essential oils. I’m not sure it helped any, but I couldn’t think of anything else. He finally called the doctor who said to put a cold compress on it and take ibuprofen and the doctor will call back in the morning. They will try to avoid having him go in unless absolutely necessary. Our morning was really quiet while Trina and Chris took care of stuff involving the computers and stuff at home. Tom worked outside as much as he could until his arm hurt too much to hold a hammer. About lunch time, we began making enchiladas. It is quite a process. Trina chopped up the turkey, I fried the tortillas and made the sauce, and got the olives and cheese ready. May 21st was a fun family day

Tom had a stake priesthood meeting at 7am, so we went in separate cars. I went to the church to practice before the meeting started. The Pettus’ decided to go to Tanya’s ward, which starts in the afternoon. After my Sacrament meeting, I went to visit another ward’s Relief Society as a Stake visitor, and then joined Knudsens and Pettus’ in Tanya’s ward. It was fun to be there with my daughters! There was a linger-longer after church which I skipped because by then I was starving and they didn’t have anything I wanted to eat. Tom was home already and had made dinner. After everyone got there and had eaten, Trina, Tanya, Chris and I went to look at a few houses while Tom went to a baptism.  When we got back we got to play cards until everyone had to go home. Tom got home just before they all left. It sure was fun to have some of my kids and their families here!

Organizing 4/9

  I have had a pain in my left ribs since Sunday. Luckily I slept well because it doesn’t hurt when I’m lying or sitting down. The rest of the day I just rested whenever it hurt to bad to continue standing. Our morning routine now includes studying the scriptures together then studying Portuguese. I have to say, compared to Spanish, it’s really hard! We are using Babel and I’m not enjoying it much. There was a community meeting with our assemblyman that Tom went to in the morning. He likes being involved in those things, but I prefer not to, especially if there is controversy. He was gone a couple of hours and brought me home a donut from the meeting. One of my goals for today was to organize the shelves better where all my craft and painting stuff is, and the other things on those shelves in the garage. I never could get to the boxes I wanted.
