Feeding and helping missionaries 9/5

 


Today is my baby daughter’s birthday! I sent her a gift certificate for dinner at a place near her. Gotta love technology!

We slept good after going to bed so late and woke up about 6am.

Tom left about 7:30 to go help clean the chapel, then went to a neighborhood meeting where they are planning the upcoming ice cream social. He loves being involved in service of all kinds. I love being home and thinking of my own needs.

I had agreed for us to meet the missionaries at the church at 11am for a little lesson with a "friend” of theirs. Tom barely got home in time to leave for that.

The missionaries had asked a lady to meet them at the church for a tour. This lady has been seeking something more and saw them in their car as her car was passing theirs. She rolled down her window and asked to meet with them. They spoke on the phone and agreed to meet at the church. She was born in Guatemala and is still fluent in Spanish. She doesn’t look impressive, but is a forensic accountant. She has one son who is a Harvard trained lawyer in Redwood city.  Anyway, the tour went really well and she will probably go to Church tomorrow. Turned out she has family who are members of the Church.

After that with the missionaries, we thought about helping Tanya with the rental but she said she didn’t need us today, so we went home.

We had a little lunch and a nice nap. We did various other things until time to get ready for the missionaries and Christian to come over for dinner at 6pm. We like the missionaries we have now. We had good discussions and the food all turned out good. They gave us a challenge of something we are already doing and I gave then a bunch of fun things they can use.

We watched half of 9 to 5 after they left. That is a really silly movie, but it has some great parts and great lines. I didn’t remember how silly it is. Then we watched part of a Come Follow Me podcast.

Christian left when we headed to bed.

Any day we can help teach with the missionaries is a good day.

The recital 10/8

We had scheduled to help clean the Church this morning, and planned to go get Tom’s Prague watercolor painting framed after that. But last night our darling little 6-year-old neighbor came over to give us a hand-written and colored in crayon invitation and a “ticket” for their recital this morning at 9am. The ticket was on a piece of paper that had been torn off. So cute! We definitely could not miss this! There are 2 kids, maybe 6 and 8 or so. The girl was going to play the piano, and the boy was going to sing – The Muffin Man. They had also invited our neighbors who are about our age. I think the 4 of us are like grandparents for the kids.  Their whole family is so cute. We love them. But first we needed to clean the church. We went early in case we could start a little earlier than 8am, but the leaders didn’t show up until 10 minutes late. Blatant Blessings 2

This month someone stole our extension ladder. Ok, it was in the back yard, fully visible, but it is the first time anything has been stolen from our yard. I guess we'll have to start putting things away. A while back my favorite camera died. I looked into getting it fixed, but it was over 3 years old, so I doubt it is worth it. Tom bought me a new camera for Christmas, but he bought me the camera he always wanted, and now he's carrying it with him for work. The ride-on lawnmower died. Tom looked at it and took it apart and found it needed a new pully. We've started having problems with the internet losing connection over and over. I finally gave up and called AT&T (a thing I try to avoid at all costs) and they told me I need a new modem. Mine was over a year old and suddenly became defective. You can't just go buy one either, you have to order it and wait for it to come in the mail. More money means it comes sooner; less money means you wait longer with unreliable ...

Tom’s Garden 6/12

Tom doesn’t just like maintaining the yard – what he loves is creating lovely areas. He has worked for weeks on the area along the back of the house going to the garage. Today he finished getting sprinklers to all the pots. It’s really pretty along there now, except for all the junk on the other side of the sidewalk, but we won’t talk about that. He loves to have his vegetable garden, and likes putting flowers among the vegetables. He hopes to have lots of string beans, beets, cabbage, tomatoes, and cantaloupe this summer.         Tanya came over after her massage and we showed her Enola that we watched last night. It was just as good the 2 nd time and fun to watch with Tanya, who enjoyed all the funny parts, too.   We installed the new kitchen lights that we bought on Thursday. We replaced the ceiling fan first and had nothing but problems with it. The box that the fixture connects to was loose in the ceiling and we tried 4 or 5 different things...
