Sewing Club 9/29

 


I woke up about 4 but stayed in bed and tried to hold still. It was so comfortable cuddling with Tom that I did manage to doze off a few times until his alarm went off at 5:55. Mostly I pictured how I want to make my purse and worked out details in my mind.

After Tom left for work, I did computer stuff then tried to figure out why some of my apps aren’t working on our tv. I had tried a little last night, but I got serious about it this morning. I googled what to do, and followed the suggestions. One of them was to turn it off and on again, which seemed dumb because I turn it on and off every day. But when I was finally able to find a tech support person on texting, he said to unplug it and then our call got cut off and they started texting to get a review of how much I appreciated their help.

But the good news was that after unplugging it and plugging it back in, all apps worked again! It is definitely a first-world problem (in other words, not a very big deal as far as problems go), but it is so nice to have those apps again so I can watch certain shows again!

I decided I am ready to make another new purse, so I began cutting it out last night, and this morning got busy assembling it. I had it all planned out in my head. It went together pretty quickly; I only had to rip seams out to redo it a few times. I’m quite happy with it, for the most part. There a some things I would like to change or fix, so I’ll see if I want to fix it bad enough to take it apart.

I spent most of the day on that, until it got too warm in the office to keep sewing. By then all I had to do was hand-sew the snaps.

Tom went to help Tanya with her rental and I had him drop off some leftovers for Lori Pierce whose husband is in a car facility on the way. I was so glad we had leftovers! I think Tom gave some to our widow neighbor, too.

I was beginning to pack up stuff to take to sewing club when I got a text that Kelsey Thompson, who hosts the club, fell ill and had to cancel. That was fine with me even though it is fun to get together with the ones who come.

With our tv apps working we were able to watch Jeopardy and one other show before watching Follow Him part 1. It was really good. We even had time to listen to several conference talks. We’ve been trying to listen to them all every day leading up to General Conference. We got behind, so we have to listen to quite a few a day to finish by Saturday.

The recital 10/8

We had scheduled to help clean the Church this morning, and planned to go get Tom’s Prague watercolor painting framed after that. But last night our darling little 6-year-old neighbor came over to give us a hand-written and colored in crayon invitation and a “ticket” for their recital this morning at 9am. The ticket was on a piece of paper that had been torn off. So cute! We definitely could not miss this! There are 2 kids, maybe 6 and 8 or so. The girl was going to play the piano, and the boy was going to sing – The Muffin Man. They had also invited our neighbors who are about our age. I think the 4 of us are like grandparents for the kids.  Their whole family is so cute. We love them. But first we needed to clean the church. We went early in case we could start a little earlier than 8am, but the leaders didn’t show up until 10 minutes late. Blatant Blessings 2

This month someone stole our extension ladder. Ok, it was in the back yard, fully visible, but it is the first time anything has been stolen from our yard. I guess we'll have to start putting things away. A while back my favorite camera died. I looked into getting it fixed, but it was over 3 years old, so I doubt it is worth it. Tom bought me a new camera for Christmas, but he bought me the camera he always wanted, and now he's carrying it with him for work. The ride-on lawnmower died. Tom looked at it and took it apart and found it needed a new pully. We've started having problems with the internet losing connection over and over. I finally gave up and called AT&T (a thing I try to avoid at all costs) and they told me I need a new modem. Mine was over a year old and suddenly became defective. You can't just go buy one either, you have to order it and wait for it to come in the mail. More money means it comes sooner; less money means you wait longer with unreliable ...

Tom’s Garden 6/12

Tom doesn’t just like maintaining the yard – what he loves is creating lovely areas. He has worked for weeks on the area along the back of the house going to the garage. Today he finished getting sprinklers to all the pots. It’s really pretty along there now, except for all the junk on the other side of the sidewalk, but we won’t talk about that. He loves to have his vegetable garden, and likes putting flowers among the vegetables. He hopes to have lots of string beans, beets, cabbage, tomatoes, and cantaloupe this summer.         Tanya came over after her massage and we showed her Enola that we watched last night. It was just as good the 2 nd time and fun to watch with Tanya, who enjoyed all the funny parts, too.   We installed the new kitchen lights that we bought on Thursday. We replaced the ceiling fan first and had nothing but problems with it. The box that the fixture connects to was loose in the ceiling and we tried 4 or 5 different things...
